As another year draws to a close, we are reminded to reflect on the previous year and all of the work that we have accomplished together. Our work would not be possible without the efforts of our donors, supporters and community partners. We thank everyone for their tremendous on-going support as we continue to move forward to feed our neighbors in need and lead the community to end hunger.
In our past fiscal year (Oct. 1, 2013 – Sept. 30, 2014), The Food Bank enjoyed a very productive year. We distributed more than 9.1 million pounds of food to people in need throughout the four counties of Western Massachusetts. We also received more food from a number of sources than ever before (including local farms, state & federal government, and corporate and private charitable donations). Our Mobile Food Bank expanded from 4 community locations to now serve a total of 10, helping serve more than 17,000 households, while our Brown Bag: Food for Elders program provided a free monthly bag of groceries to approximately 8,550 eligible low-income seniors. Finally, our SNAP outreach team assisted 761 individuals in receiving benefits to help ensure they could put food on their table.
There are a number of exciting ways for you to get involved and join us in our fight against hunger in Western Massachusetts, including volunteering your time, advocating for change, or participating in a thrilling fundraising event. Be sure to sign up to receive our e-newsletter, and keep up with all the activity and opportunity here at The Food Bank throughout the year.
We wish everyone a healthy and happy 2015.
